A 21-year-old woman claims she was sexually harassed by a deputy while she was going through a serious mental health crisis, according to a million-dollar lawsuit filed Tuesday against the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The complaint does not identify the woman, referring to her only as “Jane Doe” to protect her privacy. He identifies the deputy as Patrick Walker and says Walker obtained his contact information and requested sexually explicit photos and videos in exchange for payment. After Walker kept asking for several days, the alleged victim sent her a video of her genitals on Facebook Messenger and the deputy proceeded to send her money on Cash App, according to the filed complaint. The lawsuit says the alleged victim is disabled and struggles with mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicidal thoughts. After he attempted suicide on July 25, his friends called 911 and emergency medical responders and members of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, including Walker. The complaint says the alleged victim was transported to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center and placed on mental health hold for 72 hours. According to the lawsuit, Walker obtained the woman’s phone number by accessing “law enforcement-based records and files” and used her department-issued cell phone to text her. The lawsuit also says Walker “communicated with Plaintiff JANE DOE under the guise of authority and concern for her mental health and well-being, based on Plaintiff JANE DOE’s ongoing mental health crisis.” The alleged victim’s attorney, Mark Merin, alleges invasion of privacy, sexual harassment and discrimination, negligence and the intentional infliction of emotional distress. A jury trial has been requested and Deputy Walker, Sheriff Scott Jones and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department are listed as defendants. “Sacramento County has a longstanding protocol for not commenting on ongoing litigation,” said Lt. Rod Grassmann of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
