The emotional moment after Meghan Markle told Prince Harry she was having suicidal thoughts has been captured in resurfaced video showing the prince’s visible ‘desperation’ as he attended a charity event at the Royal Albert Hall.
In March 2021, the Duchess of Sussex revealed in her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey that she considered taking her own life while working as a senior member of the Royal Family.
During the interview, Meghan opened up about when she told her husband she was having suicidal thoughts, just hours before a Cirque du Soleil performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in January 2019.
“One of the things that still haunts me is that photo someone sent me, we were to go to a formal event at the Royal Albert Hall,” she recalled to Winfrey. “A friend said, ‘I know you don’t look at the pictures, but oh my god you look so beautiful’ and he sent it to me.”
Meghan went on to say that she “zoomed in and what I saw was the truth of what this moment was. Because right before we had to leave for this I had just had this conversation with Harry this morning,” referring to how she told Harry she “didn’t want to be alive” shortly before attending the event.
Two months after the interview, Prince Harry has opened up about the night Meghan first told him she had thought about ending her life, when she was six months pregnant with Archie at the time. Speaking with Oprah Winfrey on her Apple TV+ docuseries, The me you can’t seePrince Harry recalled a photograph of the couple shaking hands as they entered the historic building in London.
“What people may not understand is that earlier in the evening Meghan decided to share with me suicidal thoughts and the practicalities of how she was going to end her life,” said he declared.
He continued, “The scariest thing for her was her clarity of thought. She hadn’t lost it, she wasn’t crazy, she wasn’t self-medicating – either with pills or with alcohol. She was absolutely sober. She was completely sane, but in the quiet of the night, these thoughts woke her up.
“What kept her from seeing through was how unfair it would be for me after all that had happened to my mother and to now be in the position of losing another woman in my life. , with a baby inside of her, our baby,” he added, before admitting he felt “a little ashamed” of the way he reacted to his wife’s suicidal thoughts. .
“Because of the system we were in and the responsibilities and duties we had, we had a quick hug. And then we had to change and jump into a convoy with a police escort and drive to the Royal Albert Hall for a charity event and then walk out into a wall of cameras and pretend like everything was fine,” he explained. .
Now video taken during the performance at the Royal Albert Hall shows people pointing out the ‘desperation’ on Prince Harry’s face, knowing what had happened just hours before.

The resurfaced video shows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sitting in a box at the performance hall. The two cheer, while Meghan smiles at the crowd. Meanwhile, Harry’s expression is visibly grim and impassive. He grabs Meghan’s hand and looks up at the ceiling while heaving a sigh.
“The moment Meghan, heavily pregnant, tells Harry she doesn’t want to be alive anymore,” they wrote in the video. “Harry rolls his eyes in desperation because he’s terrified of history repeating itself.”
The clip, shared by TikTok user @yeternal5, has over 1.5 million views since it was posted on November 16. Many people in the comments section criticized Meghan for her smile in the video, but fans quickly came to her defense and pointed out that the Duchess put on a brave face.

“She’s not smiling, she’s masking herself,” one user commented. “She holds her ground and shows them what they want to see. His perfect wife.
“It’s called having a brave face,” another person wrote. “She’s here doing a duty.”
“Of course she smiles with the way they make headlines,” someone else said. “She didn’t want us to think that something was going on.”
In a recent episode of his podcast, ArchetypesMeghan Markle has revealed she was ‘conditioned’ not to show emotion in public.
“Even my own version of like…I’d love to cry that much, but I’m conditioned to still have it — a different kind of composure,” she told podcast guest Contance Wu. And now you kind of go, ohhh, relax and let it out. And I see the same thing in my kids that you talk about in yours, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I want to do this’ [release her emotions without fear or shame]. I want to feel so deeply. It’s like an Adele album. Just like so many intense emotions.
