Cumberland Trail, Chattanooga TN- Travel Animal Doctor

The Cumberland Trail in Chattanooga, Tennessee is known for unique rock formations and picturesque views. – Travel Animal Doctor Entering this state park by way of the North Chickamauga Creek Segment allows you to enjoy a brisk walk down to the creek to find crawdads before taking a breathtaking hike up the Hogskin Loop to the Coal Tipple Remnants and Open Mine. This state park is pet-friendly and parking is free at the North Chickamauga Creek Segment. If you choose to take the Lower Hogskin Loop, I recommend that you take caution when hiking with your dog. As you ascend up the trail there are points in which the loop becomes pretty steep. If your version of a dog walk is your dog walking you, this trail may be too sharp of an incline. The climb is exhilarating, and is for the most part canopied by trees. While the ample shade shelters you from the hot basking sun in the summer, mosquito repellant is highly recommended. Taking the Lower Hogskin Loop requires a moderate to high activity level for beginner hikers. I am able to hike every other weekend if I am lucky, and I found some parts of the hike rather difficult. If you watch the ground you many notice centipedes and toads. Small wildflowers can be found alongside of the Lower Hogskin Loop trail. As an amateur hiker, it took me three to four hours to leisurely hike a littler further than the open mine and back to the parking lot. I did not make it to the Wood Stairs or the Boston Branch Overlook. While ascent up the Lower Hogskin...

This Pet-Friendly Beach Gave Me Crabs – travelanimaldr.com

Bowers Beach is a public pet-friendly beach located in Bowers, Delaware – travelanimaldr.com My husband and I took a road trip with our dog, Jade, so that we could see what all of the hype was about in the spring horseshoe crabs event. If you missed my last article: “All About the Horseshoe Crabs”, click here for a quick overview on the mating rituals of the horseshoe crabs. Arrival to Bowers Beach We arrived in the early afternoon and excitedly made our way to the beach with our doggy bags, towels, and phones to snap pictures and videos. The sight of this prehistoric looking crab was absolutely spectacular. Though the species have been around longer than dinosaurs, flying insects, and people, individuals have a lifespan of around twenty years. Crabs, Crabs, Crabs The horseshoe crabs become sexually mature at around ten years of age, at which point they scurry ashore during new and full moons each spring, when high tides can sweep them high up on the beachfront to mate. Sometimes the crabs would get stuck on their backs and would require our help to turn them right-side up. By the end of the trip my husband and I were crab- flipping naturals, saving thirty toppled crabs so that they could fulfill their reproductive goals. My husband and I were not the only ones that were intimidated by the sight of this living ancient relic. Jade’s New Friend Jade, startled by the creature and the incoming waves, sat directly on top of her “pet parents” as often as she could. While Jade’s first time on the pet-friendly beach seemed pretty overwhelming, she...

Inspirational Pet Bloggers from BlogPaws 2015: Part II

Inspirational Pet Bloggers from BlogPaws 2015: Part II This is a continuation of my first post entitled, “Inspirational Pet Bloggers from BlogPaws 2015: Part I”. I attended the 2015 Blog Paws conference in Nashville, TN a few weeks ago and during that time, I met many outstanding bloggers. It became difficult for me to finish my a”paws”, err.. applause.. at just one post. In my last article, I wrote about four outstanding bloggers who I give two paws up. This post is my “Part II” sharing my admiration for bloggers from BlogPaws 2015. 5. Helping Hands Affordable Veterinary Surgery & Dental Care I am extremely interested in checking out Helping Hands Affordable Veterinary Surgery and Dental Care, as it is in Richmond, VA, close to where I reside. I am inspired by the mission for the clinic, to avoid euthanasia by providing low cost surgery for your pet. “Be Chilly’s P.E.E.P” by doing your part in becoming a, “preventing economic euthanasia partner” today. If your pet needs surgery and you do not know if you can cover it, check out the prices of surgeries at Helping Hands Affordable Veterinary Surgery and Dental Care. 6. Beagles and Bargains I was fortunate to have recognized Luna on my way to the car to go to the airport. Since her owner is also a blogger from Northern Virginia who enjoys hiking, it is funny to me that the first time I met Luna was in Tennessee. Beagles and Bargains is a smart and handy blog set up to talk about deals and ideas to keep your pet happy and healthy without breaking the pocket...

Inspirational Pet Bloggers from BlogPaws 2015: Part I

Inspirational Pet Bloggers from BlogPaws 2015: Part I It was quite a treat meeting the pet bloggers from BlogPaws 2015 conference. The bark-tastic business conference, BlogPaws, took over the Sheraton Music City Hotel on May 28-30, 2015 with a howl. While I was only able to attend for a day, it was a really great experience meeting extremely talented fellow bloggers from the BlogPaws community. I was not able to run into everybody that I would have liked to, but there is always next year! The people I did manage to run into were as wonderful and accepting as they have been to me since the creation of this blog a few months ago. I am also eager to keep in touch with all of the new people I have met, many of whom, ended up living extremely close to me! Thank you to the many caring and fantastic pet bloggers from BlogPaws 2015, for making my trip to Nashville, TN a ball. 1. Tom Collins First, and foremost, I want to thank Tom Collins, the Director of Education, Development & Recruiting for BlogPaws. As a first time attendee, I was nervous and unsure where to go after attending the keynote speaker. I recognized Tom Collins in the lobby from the BlogPaws website, and was happy to see a familiar face. After introducing myself, he introduced me to sponsors and some fellow veterinarians. With his guidance, I was introduced to many people I may have otherwise not had the chance to meet. 2. A Tonk's Tail A Tonk’s Tail is a pet blog about three stunning and “opinionated cats”. Not only are these cats...

Awesome Con 2015 – Travel Animal Doctor

Awesome Con 2015 in Washington, D.C. had many animal-friendly companies present. -Travel Animal Doctor It was my husband’s birthday, so to celebrate we went to Awesome Con 2015 to meet the people who were the voices of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Splinter for the newest movie, as well as the creator of the original ninja turtles and the original April O’ Neil, Judith Hoag. We were able to get a photograph with the original Teenage Mutant Ninja turtle crew, and received their autographs. There were hundreds of booths set up with talented artists and companies. Meeting the Original April O’ Neil The highlight of my day was a ten minute conversation I had with Judith Hoag about her rescued dog, who she considers part of her family. Judith Hoag noticed that I had bought artwork done by the very talented artist, Scott Straka. Scott Straka sold me autographed artwork of Scott Wilson, the actor of the veterinarian, Hershel Greene, from The Walking Dead. Judith Hoag’s neighbor is Scott Wilson, and she was eager to go home and share the news with him that she met a big fan of his, a veterinarian from Virginia. I have always been a big fan of Hershel Greene. After Hershel was killed in The Walking Dead, I lost my hope for the show. The only reason I continued to watch the series was because other family members enjoyed the show, and we watched it together at family gatherings. I especially enjoyed the quote that Scott Wilson included on the artwork. “..We all have a job to do..” My job today entails...
