10 Must Haves to Clean a Smelly Dog

10 Must Haves to Clean a Smelly Dog

The following are 10 items our family needs to make dog bath time a success: 1) The smelly dog Our particular smelly dog just got back from a long, strenuous and active hike that involved climbing rocks and being in the sun. It is especially helpful for the dog to get a little exercise before bath time to help ease resistance in the bathing process. 2) Workout clothes or a swimsuit It is important to remember not to wear your Sunday best for the cleaning of your smelly pooch. This is not the right circumstance to “dress to impress” even when getting bath time photographed. “Ewe” should dress comfortably in clothes you are not overly concerned with getting wet because your wet dog WILL shake ALL over you. 3) Hair drain trap To avoid a clogged drain we always have a hair drain trap on hand during the bath session. A plug helps conserve water while we wash her. As soon as we empty the dirty water down the drain, we slip the hair drain trap over the drain to catch the fur. 4) Large plastic pail or bowl A large Tupperware bowl or beach pail works perfectly to rinse off a localized, shampooed area. 5) Shower cap To avoid getting water in your dog’s ears we use a shower cap. Your dog will be dressed for the part and his ears will be less likely to get a secondary ear infection from moisture in the ears. Alternatively, cotton balls can be used. It should be noted that even if a product says it is safe around the eyes, I prefer to...
Yulin Cat and Dog Meat Festival 2016

Yulin Cat and Dog Meat Festival 2016

The Yulin Cat and Dog Festival is one example of an animal abuse incidence that makes me feel extra fortunate to be with my Humom and Dad. Shame on Humanity Jade here reporting on an incident of dog abuse that makes me ashamed to be called “man’s best friend”.  The Yulin cat and dog meat festival is an atrocity about which I have recently been hearing a lot of barks and howls. I respect cultural differences. But a line is crossed in humanity when pets are being abducted from homes with no recourse, and tortured while they are wagging their tails, with blind and undeserved trust of human nature. Abduction and Massacre Mass execution of my canine and feline friends through burning them alive and publicly torturing them before consumption is too morally unjust not to address. Many pets are stolen from families and then used as dog meat with their family’s collars still around their necks.  I recently saw a photograph, with a video available on YouTube of the Yulin Cat and Dog Meat festival where the limbs of a stolen family pet were being cut off in front of the respective family’s child while the dog was fully conscious.  Of course the pure agony that the poor little girl was going through is not even close to comparable of how my tortured canine friend felt before death. Yulin Cat and Dog Meat Festival advocates claim that animal rights activists are picking on Yulin when many other places kill animals that are sacred to some sector of society. You don’t have to be an animal rights activist to...
A New Director at Travel Animal Doctor

A New Director at Travel Animal Doctor

Hi, Jessica here, writing about the training of a new director here at Travel Animal Doctor. New Director Signing In Jade has agreed to take over my blogging responsibilities while I tend to some other tasks at hand. She is the smartest dog I have had the honor of knowing (no biases at all coming from her humom 😉), and I believe my shoes will be filled very easily. She will be publishing my articles and writing some of her own. Please give Jade some patience as this will be the first time that it is her primary responsibility to take over the Travel Animal Doctor blog. Congratulations Jade As Jade’s mind is very versatile there is no telling what she is going to write about, but we are eager to see. Without further adieu, meet our “We’ve Got Personality” news reporter, Jade. Congratulations on your promotion here at Travel Animal Doctor, Jade! Jade’s Induction Hi guys, thanks for reading this important news update here at Travel Animal Doctor. While my humom is doing her thing, I will be sure to fulfill her professional Travel Animal Doctor blog terms. We will still be submitting a Tantalizing Tuesday vegetarian or vegan human recipe. I will also do my best to publish Travel Animal Doctor updates and articles on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. Human Lives are Short; Mine is Shorter Humom may be on the road for a short time here soon. I was discussing with her that if she hopes to live until at least 85 and my average life span is 12 in human years, my time goes by seven times as...
Beware of Giving Sugar-Free Ice-Cream to Your Dog

Beware of Giving Sugar-Free Ice-Cream to Your Dog

This particular sugar-free ice-cream contains xylitol in it, which is toxic to your dog. Dessert Recipe Check out this delicious recipe idea incorporating sugar-free ice-cream. Xylitol Toxicity in Dogs While using this ice-cream is perfect in this recipe, it is not a food to share with your pet. Remember to check ingredients and be aware that human foods are not always pet-friendly. The sugar-free ice-cream used here has XYLITOL in it, which is extremely toxic in dogs. Summer = Ice-cream Summer is upon us. Kids are out and playing, the pools are full, and my dog, Jade, is watching out the window to see what is going on outside all day. As I write this, an ice-cream truck is playing music and driving close to the entrance to our building. 4th of July For our latest 4th of July celebration I wanted to use some delicious sugar-free ice-cream to make ice-cream sandwiches. I used Clemmy’s Sugar Free Vanilla Bean Ice-Cream (16  fl. oz) and cut right through the carton so that the ice-cream fit perfectly between the two cookies. Less Sugar in Diet I used sugar-free ice-cream so that the ice-cream sandwiches were not too sweet since it would already be in between the sweetened cookies. To further reduce sugar intake, a healthy cookie alternative can be used such as No Sugar Oatmeal Cookies.  Depicted above is the dough for cake mix cookies with food coloring. I followed the instructions for the cookies on the cake mix box and added red and blue food coloring for a hint of 4th of July inspiration. This is a fun and yummy recipe...

“We’ve Got Personality”: 4th of July Celebration

This is Jade, wishing all my friends from the United States a Happy 4th of July! Preparing for Fireworks with Dogs 1) I have my thunder jacket ready, and my mommy promises to cuddle me if I get too scared. 2) Luckily there is a quieter place in the house perfect for me to stay during those loud fireworks. I am extremely excited to run around with my friends while the parental units grill out. Be Quicker than Your Pet Since my mom is strict, I know I won’t get any of that good smelling food from her, but maybe something will fall on the ground that I can get quickly without anyone noticing. I hear it is supposed to be a whoppin’ 90 degrees Farenheit this holiday, so I plan to stay close to that water bowl.  My parents will have to keep a close eye on it to ensure that I get the water I need.  Refill Water More Often When Hot It goes so much quicker when it is hot out. Even though there is air conditioning, I still look forward to sleeping on that cool tile at night after a long, hot, and active day. I hear that there are cooling pads available that are pretty neat. Maybe one day my parents will get one for me to try out. Do not Leave Pets in the Hot Car I enjoy my car rides with mom and dad, but I am glad they have the good sense to not leave me in the car while they go into stores for their cook out food.  Xylitol Toxicity...
