5 Reasons to Get the Kitty Litter Genie

5 Reasons to Get the Kitty Litter Genie

The Litter Genie cat litter disposal system has been a godsend in our household. I am so head over heels for the product, I feel it needs to be shared with the world. If you are a cat enthusiast, you are probably very used to the scent of kitty litter and the chore of cleaning the litter box.  With Poseidon watching as I empty both his litter boxes, I can’t help but to have that humbling feeling come over me. There is just something about cleaning up after your pets that makes you realize that your health is just as important as your pet’s health. If you were to leave that litter box unaccounted for, for long periods of time, you know that you would be finding a surprise somewhere else in the household. Furthermore, if those litter boxes got too dirty, it would affect your health and wellbeing as well. That stink has a way of permeating through a room. If you are living in an apartment complex in Washington D.C. area, then you could potentially smell it throughout the household. So how do you get that smell under control? Here is why Litter Genie has worked so well for our family. 1. Ease of Use To use the Litter Genie, one only has to pop the lid open and put the dirty litter in. Then open up the seal to send it down to the deeper compartment, where it can sit until it is full. 2. Sealed Compartmentalization In opening the lid, one may think a strong smell would be present. But this small can has an...
Green Spring Gardens Park Review – Travel Animal Doctor

Green Spring Gardens Park Review – Travel Animal Doctor

Visit Green Spring Gardens Park in Alexandria, VA for a peaceful botanical experience. The Story: The Green Spring Gardens park has a way of calming the busiest of minds. There are ponds with fountains and turtles, and the biggest lily pads I have ever seen. If you live in Northern Virginia, or are even passing through, this small garden park is worth the stop. My dog Jade and I visited the Green Spring Gardens park when a fire alarm went off in our complex a few weeks before getting our cat, Poseidon.  Instead of waiting outside with a boat load of people and their pets, we decided a quick outing would be a positive activity to brighten up our day. The Park: Our luck instantly turned around when we saw a sign for the Green Spring Gardens Park. Since Jade was there with me we did not go into the horticulture center or the library. There is a lot of parking available for free just outside the park. After parking, Jade and I walked down a gravel trail. This gravel trail took us past a quaint historical home. Soon after this historical house we turned right onto a trail aside a small pond with a large fountain in the center.  Across the pond we could see 5 turtles sunning. The Woods: Delighted, we continued on the path to see what we would come across next. Around the corner from the first pond was a second pond with one side filled with lily pads. This pond also had a fountain in the center, and a park bench on the far side of...
Pumpkin Pancakes

Pumpkin Pancakes

These pleasing pumpkin pancakes are a healthy and delicious alternative to your regular pancake breakfast! This past weekend my husband and I began preparing for the Halloween holiday. We enjoyed a scenic walk in the park admiring the fall leaves with our dog, Jade. Being color blind did not seem to phase Jade, as it appeared she enjoyed the smell of Fall as much as we enjoyed the sights. After the jaunt, we went to the store to pick up pumpkin carving utensils. We sat on our porch and carved pumpkins, collecting the seeds as we gutted the pumpkin. We look forward to this tradition, more so for the spicy roasted pumpkin seeds than anything else. With pumpkins on the mind, we decided to try this delicious pumpkin pancake recipe on for size.  It was a nice change of pace from my normal morning breakfast, which is usually a hard boiled egg, a piece of fruit or a smoothie.  The pancakes were extremely filling, naturally sweet and healthy. We may make the pumpkin pancake recipe an additional tradition for next year. In general I am not a pancake and waffles kind of woman. This pancake recipe could easily change my mind. Using pumpkin in the recipe offers a unique flavor and an array of health benefits. Similar to carrots, pumpkins contain Vitamin A which aids in keeping your vision strong. Beta carotene is also an antioxidant found in pumpkins, which is helpful to stave off cancer and wrinkles. Pumpkins also have a fair amount of fiber which helps with weight loss. Finally, pumpkins are a good source of Vitamin C to...
Poseidon Attacks at Travel Animal Doctor

Poseidon Attacks at Travel Animal Doctor

The attack of Poseidon continues here at Travel Animal Doctor. Yesterday we left off with Poseidon the cat as still as a stone under the tablecloth that entangled him.  Jade, the lab mix became increasingly interested in the statue with eyes that were fixated on her tail. Poseidon’s plan was thwarted, for the tablecloth seemed to be a little less invisible than what he primarily contrived. Without warning, Poseidon switched up his plot, and jumped out of his invisible cloak at the coffee table.  Attacking a leg, Poseidon kicked and kicked until it seemed that the table called to him, “uncle, uncle, uncle!” As sudden as the attack began, he stopped with a look of boredom in his eyes.  He then turned his attention to the tablecloth that was once cloaking him in what he had originally thought was invisibility. It was obviously the tablecloth’s fault that things did not go as planned. Jade watched in amusement as Poseidon’s pet parents yelled at him to stop biting and clawing the cloth. With a meow of discontent, Poseidon rolled over the table cloth, concocting his next move. As Poseidon lay overtop of the tablecloth his pet parents groaned in despair.  That tablecloth would indeed need washed as soon as this game was over. Too light-hearted to steal the cloth from him now, they watched in entertainment to see what he would do next. Scared of Poseidon, Jade ran for the coach where she could be protected by her pet mother.  Her pet father started poking her and telling her to go play. Jade was pretty stubborn, so she sat on her pet...
