Wishing everyone safe travels for the upcoming 4th of July weekend. It is also thunder jacket holiday for those pups who are afraid of the loud fireworks close to the house. I foresee lots of cuddling with our dog, Jade, in the near future. This grilled Mexican corn has a spicy and punchy twist that replaces the need for butter. The vibrant and boastful flavor of chile powder and lime juice reminds me of corn I have had in Latin America. Even with a few char marks, the corn was absolutely delicious and made me want to sit back,” and relax with a Corona in hand. Simple The grilled Mexican corn recipe is quite simple and took me about 15 minutes from start to finish. What I liked most about this recipe was that I was able to avoid butter entirely, without sacrificing flavor. This Pet-Friendly Beach Gave Me Crabs – travelanimaldr.com

Bowers Beach is a public pet-friendly beach located in Bowers, Delaware – travelanimaldr.com My husband and I took a road trip with our dog, Jade, so that we could see what all of the hype was about in the spring horseshoe crabs event. If you missed my last article: “All About the Horseshoe Crabs”, click here for a quick overview on the mating rituals of the horseshoe crabs. Arrival to Bowers Beach We arrived in the early afternoon and excitedly made our way to the beach with our doggy bags, towels, and phones to snap pictures and videos. The sight of this prehistoric looking crab was absolutely spectacular. Though the species have been around longer than dinosaurs, flying insects, and people, individuals have a lifespan of around twenty years. Crabs, Crabs, Crabs The horseshoe crabs become sexually mature at around ten years of age, at which point they scurry ashore during new and full moons each spring, when high tides can sweep them high up on the beachfront to mate. Sometimes the crabs would get stuck on their backs and would require our help to turn them right-side up. By the end of the trip my husband and I were crab- flipping naturals, saving thirty toppled crabs so that they could fulfill their reproductive goals. My husband and I were not the only ones that were intimidated by the sight of this living ancient relic. Jade’s New Friend Jade, startled by the creature and the incoming waves, sat directly on top of her “pet parents” as often as she could. While Jade’s first time on the pet-friendly beach seemed pretty overwhelming, she...
We’ve Got Personality: An Interview with Rebel

We’ve Got Personality: An Interview with Rebel

Thanks for stopping by for the new latest and greatest: “We’ve Got Personality” Ding ding ding!!! It is time for another round of “We’ve Got Personality” with your host, Jade. Meet Rebel Today’s star is Rebel, fondly called Belle by her family members. This Belle is no ding dong, despite what her nickname may suggest. Belle is a special needs girl, with an extreme case of anxiety. She is my newest cousin. While she gets along with my cousins, I am uncertain as to whether she will like me. It took much persuading by her other sisters to get her to want to bark up a conversation with me. Thankfully, here she is- ready to share her story with the world. We’ve Got Personality The Interview Jade: Hi Belle, I can’t wait to meet you in person. In the meanwhile, this Skype session will have to do. What’s your story? Belle: *Thinking* Thinking The last that I remember, where I was born there were twenty + dogs on the property. Some were allowed in the house and some weren’t, and I was one of the outside dogs. The family was struggling to care for all of us, and gave my sister and me up to the humane society for adoption. *Thinking* *Stares at Jade on the screen.* Jade: Hmmm… it seems like Belle is just panting. Maybe another question will be better. You were adopted into a wonderful family. What did you think when you were able to go home with them? Belle: *Gives Jade award winning smile* *Thinking* Thinking *Thinking***I was extremely scared of walking on a leash,...
French Onion Grilled Potatoes

French Onion Grilled Potatoes

French Onion Grilled Potatoes The 4th of July is right around the corner, and I am already “chomping at the bit” to grill these french onion grilled potatoes. In fact, who really needs a holiday to enjoy good food? We may need to grill these tonight. As a vegetarian, by completely removing a food group, I have become pretty inventive with my meals. Sometimes they turn out to be complete disasters, in which case I may write about a few of my disasters to warn you what NOT to do. After all, it is more fun to hear and learn from other people’s mistakes rather than doing it yourself! So while this was an invention, I found these french onion grilled potatoes were a delicious success. I want to credit my mom for thinking it up, in place of ingredients we didn’t have. The next time I use this recipe, I will be either adding more onion soup dry mix or using tin foil. I could not get enough of that french onion flavor. While in these photos we used skewers, I could see the advantage of using tin foil in order to keep the potatoes soaking in that tasty french onion flavor while sitting on the grill. Ingredients: 2-3 Potatoes 1 packet of Lipton French onion soup dry mix 1/4 c. Olive oil Directions: 1) Chop up the potatoes into small, bite-sized cubes. 2) Combine 1/4 c. of olive oil and the packet of Lipton French onion soup dry mix in a bowl and mix well. 3) Cook the potato cubes throughly until soft. 4) Brush the mixture over the cooked...
