Travel Animal Doctor: An Environmental Crisis

Travel Animal Doctor: An Environmental Crisis

As the sun rises in the Galapagos it is hard to imagine we are in an environmental crisis. – Travel Animal Doctor Yet our world is telling us to wake up. The decreasing numbers of the Galapagos penguins and marine animals are insane, and the drought in California has everyone on edge. While sitting aboard the cruise ship, it is hard to think of anything other than the spectacular beauty that surrounds that moment. The cruel reality is that animals in this pristine-appearing “heavenly” waterway are in deep, deep trouble. The Galapagos penguins and marine animals are starving to death at an alarming rate, and Californians are thirsty. There is indeed, an environmental crisis. A Penguin Intervention: When I was snorkeling in the Galápagos, two Galapagos penguins swam by and one attacked my flipper. I could see deeper down that there were fish. Frozen for a moment in disbelief, I decided that I just got in the way of a meal. I felt increasingly guilty that I was in the way of a meal after seeing an article online about how penguins are starving and becoming endangered due to climate change. The sad realization set in that the once in a lifetime interaction I had with a wild Galapagos penguin could have been part of a much greater, more depressing issue. It has been four years since the Galapagos penguin attacked my flipper. If climate change caused these problems in the Galapagos four years ago, imagine how climate change may be impacting penguins now. Penguin Death Toll: The death count of penguins would definitely be on the rise today, as more...

Travel Animal Doctor: Avoid Unintentional Pet Poisoning

Avoid unintentional pet poisoning by being aware of what is toxic to your furry friends. – Travel Animal Doctor We all have the best intentions when it comes to spoiling our pets. There are many species differences between animals that make some things safe to be consumed by humans, but can be very deadly to a pet.  Avoid unintentional pet poisoning by remembering this story.  John packed up the car and is ready for his holiday trip to see the parents.   The whole family including Rocko and Spud are getting packed into the car like animal Tetris. John thought of everything including those Poinsettias and chocolate for his mom and that small ugly antique white dresser that he is taking to strip and restore to the handsome original walnut finish in his dad’s workshop. The clamor of “Teenage Wasteland” and other great hits plays on the radio as he is driving along on his 16 hour trek to the promised land. Last week there was so much snow that John had to climb out of the window with a shovel just to get out of the house and get the driveway cleared quick enough to get to work on time.  There were no work cancellations, as he was expected to be a proficient black ice dodger and snow wrangler. One week in paradise with warm 67 degree Fahrenheit sunny weather  is all John can think about as he sings along, “… engage Iceland..”. So he won’t quit his day job to become a member of The Who, but he WILL come back to his job with a nice tan line to show off to his fellow colleagues. John’s cat and dog do well on car rides so he is not...
Travel Animal Doctor: Washington DC Travel & Adventure Show

Travel Animal Doctor: Washington DC Travel & Adventure Show

At the Washington DC Travel & Adventure Show an exhibit to the right of me caught my eye. – Travel Animal Doctor The allure of dog products had me hooked from the moment I set foot on the ground. From there I was sucked into the dazzling commotion of what can only be described as the Bermuda Triangle of Adventure and Travel. I was at the Washington DC Travel and Adventure Show. One by one, each exhibit drew me in and transported me to a new place in the world, seemingly even more attractive than the last. I felt enchanted like Wendy Darling in Neverland, following every word the Peter Pan at the exhibit said to transport my mind to a new adventure. Like a new page in one of those choose your own adventure books, I was intrigued by every possibility. Has anybody else attended this show before? It appears that the show happens next in Philadelphia. A list of upcoming shows in different locations as can be seen if you click here. This show made me want to take a round the world flight to anywhere and everywhere! I came home with bags of pamphlets on travel tours, agencies, hotels, and various modes of transportation. I knew I would have a blast when the first booth I saw walking in was a booth to Chico’s Pet Depot in Falls Church, VA. It is a store that offers pet food, grooming and pet adoptions. For the love of animals and travel, I was in a personal heaven. As I walked from booth to booth I could overhear famous...
Travel Animal Doctor: The Many Faces of Jade

Travel Animal Doctor: The Many Faces of Jade

Here are seven of the many faces of Jade. – Travel Animal Doctor Does your dog recycle the use of the same facial expressions? Unless Jade is on a walk, her facial expressions stay pretty close to one of these seven varieties. Here is a little ditty that I made up to go with Jade’s faces. Warning: I’m not a professional at poetry. The last time I took a poetry class was ten years ago in high school. But while I am not a poet, I am attempting this poem because this is just what Jade does to me. 😉 Here’s to me trying for art’s sake. I hope this brightens your day. Pets have that magical ability to turn a gloomy day into a happy one. Enjoy the many faces of Jade! – Travel Animal Doctor Share this:PrintEmailLike this:Like...
